The Newcastle United-supporting Bolton Wanderers striker is being linked with a move to Sunderland.

The latest player to be linked with a move to Sunderland grew up supporting the Mackems’ fierce rivals Newcastle United.
According to the Sunderland Echo, Bolton Wanderers striker Gary Madine is ‘understood to be’ on Chris Coleman’s radar ahead of the January transfer window.
And Sunderland supporters should already be familiar with the 27-year-old, who scored against them in Bolton’s 3-3 draw at the Stadium of Light on Halloween.
But there is another reason for Mackems fans to dislike Madine, who hails from Birtley and for whom Newcastle legends Chris Waddle and Alan Shearer were childhood heroes, according to Bolton’s official website.

That being said, playing for the enemy was never a problem for Sunderland fan Waddle, who also turned out for the Wearsiders later in his career, and Madine should take inspiration from the former England winger should a move to the Stadium of Light materialise.
The former Sheffield Wednesday striker has scored six goals in 20 Championship outings this season, helping Bolton to 21st place in their first season back in the second tier.
Sunderland fans, could you overlook Madine’s Newcastle allegiance?
