Sunderland have been linked with Chris Wilder of Sheffield United.

It has been reported that Wilder will put pen to paper on an improved extended contract at Championship club United.
According to Sky Sports, Sunderland, who got relegated from the Championship to League One at the end of the season, are interested in appointing the former Northampton Town boss as their manager.

Always a long shot
Wilder is one of the best managers in the Championship, and it was always going to be hard for Sunderland to tempt him to move to the Stadium of Light this summer.
After all, leaving a club who narrowly missed out on a place in the Championship playoffs for a team in League One is not exactly career-enhancing, is it?

The Black Cats should not be too disheartened if Wilder remains at United. There is still enough time for the former Premier League club to make a sensible managerial appointment and make good signings in the summer transfer window.
