Sunderland’s owner has confirmed his side’s interest in the Bradford City striker.

Sunderland target Charlie Wyke has denied one Bradford City fan’s insinuation he limped out of Tuesday’s friendly defeat against Sheffield United because he has a medical due elsewhere.
According to Sunderland owner Stewart Donald, his side have bid for the Bradford striker, along with George Evans of Reading and Mohamed Eisa of Cheltenham Town.
And after lasting only eight minutes at Valley Parade, Wyke found himself challenged on the matter on Twitter.
“Piss take Wyke, challenge never existed, gor a medical soon?” wrote @sj__robbo, to which the 25-year-old replied, in a now deleted post: “Pisstake? Never one to fake a injury like your insinuating! I’ll play every minute of every game if i can but when i get a knock i had to come off. Couldn’t be more frustrated i’ve played 45mins since the start of pre season its nowhere near enough. I wish I could of played on”.

Sunderland have recruited in all other areas of the pitch since last season’s relegation, although an out-and-out striker continues to elude them.
But, having scored or made 37 goals in 81 League One games, Wyke could be the player the Mackems are looking for.

Sunderland are said to have offered £600,000 for Wyke, whom it is claimed also has interest from Championship clubs including Bolton Wanderers.
