The Welshman is linked with joining former national boss Chris Coleman at the Stadium of Light.
Ben Woodburn of Wales celebrates as he scores their first goal
Sunderland have turned to former Wales manager Chris Coleman in their bid to survive relegation from the Championship.
The Welshman undoubtedly has a tough job on his hands and will need new faces in order to be successful in his challenge.
Predictably, that has seen him linked with a move for two regular players in his Welsh national team – Liverpool’s Danny Ward and Ben Woodburn.

The latter in particular was impressive for Wales, scoring on senior debut v Austria and impressing for his country.
If he was to end up at Sunderland it would be the perfect move for him to play regular football, under a coach who can clearly get the best out of him.
It would also see him join the side which he made his professional debut against. Woodburn came on against Sunderland in November last year and this is what Liverpool boss Jurgen Klopp, speaking to the BBC, had to say about the player at the time:
“There is really always a way, even when the first team is a really strong side. I thought it was a good moment, not only for Ben, but to show it for all the other boys in the Academy.
“There is a way [to the first-team], especially for you, whoever you are, as long as you are here and train hard and work hard, everything can be possible.”
Jurgen Klopp of Liverpool
Three days later Woodburn scored his first goal for the club in a League Cup clash with Leeds United but he has only appeared eight more times since for Liverpool and perhaps now is the right time for Klopp to give the 18-year-old some loan experience.
It certainly doesn’t look like first-team opportunities are forthcoming at Anfield this very moment, so working under Coleman at a club like Sunderland might be a great way to enhance his development.
