Lee Cattermole is celebrating his highest number of appearances for Sunderland in a Premier League season with another high – the most bookings he has ever accumulated in a league campaign.
With one game to go, Cattermole equalled the Premier League record of 14 yellow cards with his booking against Leicester on Saturday, a record that is jointly owned by Robbie Savage, Mark Hughes and Cheick Tiote.
His total this year is 2 more than Jack Colback, who has the second highest number of yellows with 12.
The 27-year-old has accumulated his fair share of yellow and red cards during a career, but he has had one of his worst seasons in terms of disciplinary matters this year – even if he avoided a dismissal.

Last year the former Middlesbrough player received just 6 yellow cards, as well as a red card, and the season before received just 2 bookings though he played much fewer games.
The 2011/12 season was another bad campaign, with a red card accompanied by 10 yellows.
It is unlikely that Cattermole will change what is such a feature of his game, and as long as he continue to avoid a red card, Sunderland will happy enough to have such an enforcer in their ranks if it helps them stay in the Premier League – even if he picks up another yellow against Arsenal.
