Sunderland signing Liverpool’s Danny Ward and Ben Woodburn could transform their season

Sunderland are currently sat at the bottom of the Championship table.

According to The Sun, Sunderland want to sign Liverpool’s Danny Ward and Ben Woodburn in the January transfer window, and the double-swoop could completely transform their fortunes.

Sunderland have had some serious problems all over the pitch this season, but they look particularly short in goal and up-front.

While Lewis Grabban has scored regularly, Sunderland have struggled to find another prolific scorer, and Woodburn could offer them that.

Although the youngster is very inexperienced, he possesses a great deal of quality, and has already proven he can score against Championship teams, after netting against Leeds United in last season’s EFL Cup.

Woodburn would offer pace and creativity to Sunderland’s attacking ranks, and his arrival would surely make Coleman’s side a much bigger threat.

If the Black Cats could sign Ward, too, then it would have to be considered a major coup, as the Welsh international looks a top talent.

Ward kept goal for Huddersfield Town last term, as they earned promotion to the Premier League, and has all the quality to be a stand out player at this level.

With Sunderland’s current goalkeepers, Robbin Ruiter and Jason Steele, both proving to be error prone, a more reliable stopper would be hugely welcomed at the Stadium of Light.

And if Coleman could complete the double loan deal with Liverpool, it would leave Sunderland in a much healthier position.
