The Black Cats have already added Mika to their goalkeeping roster since the transfer window ended.
Sunderland’s Jordan Pickford – the current number one
Sunderland have signed another goalkeeper, just a few days after completed a deal for Portuguese stopper Mika, as the club to strengthen a position that was perceived as vulnerable after Vito Mannone’s injury earlier in the season.
And the man who has come in is certainly has a name that could strike fear into strikers, with 18-year-old Oliver Pain agreeing a one-year deal after his release from Crystal Palace.
The Black Cats website has said Australian-born Pain will go into the academy side this year, though he may well fancy a crack at the first team if David Moyes suffers any more injury problems in that position.
Jordan Pickford and Mika will fight for the number one jersey in Mannone’s absence, while development squad players Max Stryjek and James Talbot are next in line for a role before Pain may get a chance, though he was on the bench for the Under-23 side earlier this week.
Even if he is some way from the first team, the youngster couldn’t hide his delight after completing a move to the Stadium of Light.
“It is an honour to sign for a club like Sunderland,” Pain told safc.com. “The facilities and the academy is just incredible and I’m really enjoying my time here.
“All the staff are great and they are mentoring me in the sense that I’m becoming a man as well as a goalkeeper, hopefully they can take me to the next step now.”
