Leeds United allowed Rob Green to leave in the summer, and Sunderland could benefit from that mistake.

Sunderland should help to show Leeds United exactly what they are missing by making a move to sign Rob Green from Huddersfield Town in the January transfer window.

Leeds allowed Green to depart Elland Road last summer, as they brought in Felix Wiedwald and Andy Lonergan, in a move which Victor Orta hoped would upgrade his side’s goalkeeping options.

However, as the season has progressed, Leeds’ error has been clear.

Wiedwald and Lonergan have both struggled since moving to the Yorkshire side, and neither have looked as steady as Green.

Sunderland, too, have had their own goalkeeping problems – with Robbin Ruiter and Jason Steele both not looking up to scratch.

Sunderland should now consider offering Green the chance to play regular Championship football again.

Since moving to Huddersfield Green has been kept on the bench, due to the form of Jonas Lossl, and the veteran may be keen to move somewhere he can play regularly again.

And if Green was to improve Sunderland, then Leeds fans would surely feel as if their error of letting him go had been compounded, which could create further frustrations around Elland Road.
