Sunderland are known to be on the look out for new additions, and Wigan Athletic’s Nick Powell should be on their radar.
Sunderland’s impressive start to the new campaign has sparked optimism around the Stadium of Light that this season may just turn out to be better than most expected.
When Sunderland were beaten 5-0 by Celtic in pre-season there were huge fears that Simon Grayson’s side were in for a torturous campaign.
Yet, Sunderland have drawn with Derby County and beaten Norwich City in their first two matches.

And there is now a genuine belief forming around the Black Cats that they are pulling in the right direction.
Grayson is known to not be resting on his laurels though, and still wants more additions before the end of the transfer window.
Sunderland want to give themselves more potency in attack, and the start Nick Powell has made at Wigan Athletic should alert the Wearsiders to his potential availability.
Powell has notched three goals in his first two games at League One level, and looks to be simply too good for the division.
Wigan are unlikely to want to allow Powell to leave, as they go for promotion, but Sunderland do have money to spend and may have a chance of persuading the Latics to part with their key attacker.
If Powell was to join Sunderland, he would help to add more goalscoring threat to Grayson’s side, and that could prove crucial as the Black Cats look to build on their impressive start to the season.
