Sunderland should join chase for Newcastle ace Aarons

Sunderland desperately need an injection of attacking tenacity in January.

Newcastle United speed machine Rolando Aarons is reportedly said to be interesting three English sides ahead of the January transfer window, but Sunderland should steal in to save their 2017-18 campaign.

The Daily Mirror claimed on their live transfer news blog on Monday (December 4, 22:39) that 22-year-old Aarons is interesting Premier League duo Huddersfield and Crystal Palace, as well as Championship side Aston Villa.

The attacker, who came through the ranks at St. James’ Park and shone for the Toon in his teenage days in the Premier League, has since struggled to mirror such an impact.

The England Under-20 international ruptured his anterior cruciate ligament last season, stunting his progress but since returning to first-team football this season, Aarons has caught the eye of Premier League suitors.

But Sunderland should look to convince Newcastle to put rivalries aside in the north east and allow the Black Cats to the Toon a favour by taking Aarons on loan and giving him the first-team football needed to reach his fullest potential.

A move to Sunderland would be favourable for Rafa Benitez’s side. Sending Aarons on loan to either Palace or Huddersfield would see the Toon give Newcastle’s direct relegation rivals a boost from their own pocket.

Similarly, Aston Villa already boast the likes of Josh Onomah, Robert Snodgrass and red-hot Ghana international Albert Adomah, and that would see Aarons’ chances of first-team football decrease – making a loan move ultimately pointless.

However, a move to local rivals Sunderland would see him gain first-team football, and benefit all parties involved.

Sunderland boss Chris Coleman desperately needs an injection of pace and raw attacking talent into his final third, with the likes of Callum McManaman struggling to have an impact in the red and white stripes of Sunderland.

Aarons’ would be more than effective in the Championship and proved that against second-tier opposition in the Carabao Cup for Newcastle this season, scoring and laying on an assist in a 3-2 loss to Nottingham Forest.

It would see Sunderland survive relegation, Aarons gain first-team game time and Newcastle preventing Aarons to join a side are in competition with the Toon.
