Sunderland should have signed Lewie Coyle before he left Leeds United for Fleetwood Town on loan in the summer transfer window.
Leeds United youngster Lewie Coyle joined Joey Barton’s Fleetwood Town on loan last month, and Sunderland would have been wise to sign the 22-year-old on a similar deal.
Coyle is a very talented and promising young player who can operate as a right-back or as a right wing-back, and Sunderland could have used someone with his quality and energy for their 2018-19 League One campaign.

The Black Cats could be forced to sell some of the best players in the summer transfer window, as not many will be willing to play in the third tier of English football.
That Coyle is still technically a Leeds player suggests just how highly he is rated by the Elland Road chiefs, who clearly do not want to sell him.
Moreover, the 22-year-old enjoyed a successful loan spell in League One last season, as he made 41 starts and one substitute appearance in the division for Fleetwood, according to WhoScored.
Sunderland need players who knows the division well, and Coyle would have been a good fit, especially on a loan deal.
Fleetwood know just how good Coyle is, and new manager Barton signing the Leeds youngster on loan until January was a no-brainer.
Adam Matthews has failed to fully convince at Sunderland at right-back, while Donald Love has not been able to establish himself in the Black Cats’ starting lineup since his move from Manchester United in the summer of 2016.
Having another option in Coyle would have helped Sunderland manager Jack Ross for next season.
