Sunderland should consider making a loan move for Liverpool’s promising youngster Ben Woodburn.
Ben Woodburn is arguably one of Liverpool’s most promising young players to have come from the club’s youth ranks in recent years.
With nine appearances and one record-breaking goal, the 2016/17 was a breakthrough campaign for the 17-year-old.
He is a natural forward, but the youngster has shown so much maturity and versatility that it’s hard to tell what will his natural position be moving forward.
Woodburn has played on the left wing, the ring wing and as a secondary striker last season. For the Liverpool U-23’s, he regularly operates as a centre-forward.
He is highly intelligent, technically gifted, and an instinctive player, and has all the potential to establish himself as a top player in the future.
Jurgen Klopp said that “he’s happy to have him around”, and has used him in the central midfield role as well during some of the pre-season games.
Earlier this month, German club Hannover 96 enquired about signing Woodburn on loan, but it was immediately rejected, as the Reds look to keep a close eye on his immediate development.
Sunderland should make a move for this exciting youngster before the transfer deadline.
Simon Grayson needs to bolster his attacking department, and while there is considerable scope for Woodburn to develop physically, he would benefit from getting regular games under his belt.
Liverpool are in no rush to throw him into the Premier League action at this moment, and therefore could send him to a Championship club to continue his progress.
He would be a smart signing for the Black Cats. The deal would suit all parties involved.
