If Sunderland really do have a big budget for a League One side, then they should consider bringing Steven Fletcher back to spearhead their promotion push for the upcoming season.
Fletcher spent four years at Sunderland between 2012 and 2016, and he netted 23 goals for the Black Cats.
The Scottish striker wasn’t a prolific scorer in the top tier, but at League One level he would be one of the most feared forwards in the division.
Fletcher is currently at Sheffield Wednesday and he is on hefty wages, but the Owls would be unlikely to stand in his way, if they did receive an offer.
The 31-year-old has fallen out of favour at Hillsborough, after making just 10 appearances over the past campaign.
And Sunderland should now attempt to bring the veteran forward back to the Stadium of Light.
New owner Stewart Donald went on record yesterday to suggest that Sunderland have a big budget, and Fletcher would surely guarantee goals in the third tier.
The forward could offer Sunderland experience and knowhow, as they look to bounce straight back from back-to-back relegations.
And although Fletcher’s first spell at Sunderland wasn’t a major success, he would be a brilliant addition to their squad for next season.
