The West Ham United midfielder is just what Sunderland need if they have to fight their way out of the Championship.
Optimistic Sunderland fans may disagree, but it looks like the Black Cats’ nine lives are about to run out, with relegation to the Championship looking all but certain at this late stage of the campaign.
If David Moyes can inspire another great escape, he will be hoping to significantly strengthen his side with quality permanent signings this summer. However if they face at least a year in the second tier, Sunderland would be wise to consider a loan move for one of West Ham United’s most exciting teenage talents.
Domingos Quina may only be 17, but the Portuguese midfielder is the real deal, already appearing twice for the Hammers’ first-team and being named in the match day squad for 10 league matches this season.
That is how highly Quina is rated at the London Stadium and he has the qualities required if Sunderland want an immediate return to the top flight come May 2018.
Assuming they go down, and that is still speculation at this stage, Sunderland may be hard pressed to sign the type of player they would otherwise want, meaning savvy loan deals could make all the difference.
Quina would add steel, drive and determination to the centre of the park, and he has the attributes to cope with the rigours of Championship football.
West Ham would also surely consider sending him out on loan to see what he can do with regular first-team football, and while some Sunderland fans may scoff at the name it could prove to be a masterstroke given Quina’s talent and future stardom.
