Sunderland are reportedly expected to sign Edouard Michut on a permanent deal despite interest in the January transfer window from Newcastle United.
According to L’Equipe, PSG expect the French talent to remain at the Stadium of Light beyond this season on a full-time basis, with Sunderland believed to be ready to sign Michut after an impressive loan spell for the Championship play-off hopefuls.
Lauded as ‘sublime’ by Total Football Analysis, Michut has attracted interest from Premier League clubs based on his displays for the Black Cats in the English second-tier, with Sky Sports News reporter Lyall Thomas claiming that Newcastle are interested in the midfielder, alongside RB Leipzig.
However, it appears that Sunderland will be the lucky side this summer that secures the 20-year-old’s services permanently, with Tony Mowbray’s side looking to make a statement in the transfer window this year regardless of if they return to the Premier League or not.
Indeed, Sunderland signing Michut would be quite the coup for the northeast side, especially with Newcastle also linked with the midfielder earlier in the year, and the Magpies could soon regret missing out on the French youngster.

Having lost out on a top European talent to their local rivals, Newcastle have some right to feel embarrassed by how they’ve missed out on Michut, who could soon play a role for Sunderland in the Premier League if the Black Cats manage to pull off success in the playoffs.
Whilst Newcastle have the funds to bring Michut to St. James Park, it now feels unlikely that Newcastle will push hard for the Frenchman given what Eddie Howe’s side are looking for this summer, with European football on the horizon for the Magpies.
