Leeds United goalkeeper Andy Lonergan has been linked with Sunderland in the January transfer window.
It has been reported that Lonergan will be part of the Leeds squad for the Championship game against Hull City away from home at the KCOM Stadium this evening.
The report has claimed that the Black Cats would match Lonergan’s current contract with an 18-month deal and are eyeing a last-minute deal for the goalkeeper.
This report from The Yorkshire Evening Post suggests that the transfer of the 34-year-old goalkeeper from Leeds to Sunderland will happen only on deadline day.
After all, the Whites need to have a back-up goalkeeper on the substitutes’ bench against Hull, and it will be too late to do any deal after the game ends tonight.
Lonergan joined Leeds in the summer of 2017 and is the second-choice custodian at the West Yorkshire outfit at the moment.
From a playing perspective, it would make sense for the former Wolverhampton Wanderers goalkeeper to move to Sunderland on January transfer deadline day.
Moreover, AS Argentina has reported that Arsenal goalkeeper Emiliano Martinez is set to join Leeds (click here to read more), thereby paving the way for Lonergan to make the switch to Sunderland.
