Sunderland were hoping to keep Lewis Grabban beyond January but the in-form striker may be on his way to Wolverhampton Wanderers instead.
If Wolves are genuinely interested in signing Lewis Grabban in the New Year, the Championship leaders have just been handed a major boost.
Parent club Bournemouth have the option of re-calling Grabban in January from his loan spell at Sunderland. And though the Black Cats are understandably desperate to keep hold of their 11-goal top scorer, it appears that they are powerless to prevent the 29-year-old’s exit.
The Northern Echo reports that Coleman has all but given up hope of keeping Grabban at the Stadium of Light beyond January and has now turned to alternative targets.
And this bodes well for Wolves, who The Chronicle claimed had entered talks with Grabban over a potential move to Molineux recently.
It is unknown how much Bournemouth would want for a player they paid £8 million to sign from Norwich City two years ago, according to The Guardian, but the prospect of a hefty price-tag will not concern a Wolves side heavily backed by their Chinese owners, Fosun International.
Grabban has an excellent track record in the Championship and fits the bill for manager Nuno Espirito Santo, who wants a striker who has been there and done it before. He scored at a decent rate in this division during his first spell at Bournemouth and also helped Norwich City earn promotion to the Premier League via the play-offs in 2014/15.
And Grabban would offer some much needed support to lone striker Leo Bonatini in Nuno’s squad.
