The Black Cats reported target has not been included in Bolton Wanderers’ list of contracted players published on Thursday.
Sunderland have been linked with Bolton Wanderers defender Harry Brockbank earlier this month and it appears as though there has been a big update on his future which could pave the way for the Black Cats to snap him up – but they would need to be quick as they look set to have competition.
According to a report from The Sun on Sunday (9/6; page 61), Sunderland manager Jack Ross was keen on bringing the versatile 20-year-old defender to the Stadium of Light, but Championship side Brentford and League One new-boys Ipswich Town were also said to be in the running.
The Sun had recently suggested that Brockbank would have been able to leave Bolton on a free transfer this summer due to their difficult financial situation, and on Thursday morning, the Whites published a list of players still contracted to the club – which does not include Brockbank’s name.
Brockbank, who is capable of playing at right back, in the middle of defence and in the centre of midfield, made three Championship appearances at the tail end of the 2018-19 season and also one during a loan spell with Football League new-boys Salford City, according to Transfermarkt.
Bolton endured a difficult season in 2018-19, experiencing relegation from the Championship and suffering financial issues which have led to administration (official website) and a 12-point deduction going into the 2019-20 League One campaign (Chronicle Live).
