Sunderland winger Aiden McGeady suggested on The Go Radio Football Show on Go Radio (5pm, September 7, 2020), as transcribed by The Scottish Sun, that he would love to return to Celtic in the summer transfer window.

McGeady suggested that if he is to leave Sunderland this summer, then Celtic would be his first choice.

However, the Republic of Ireland international winger has admitted that manager Neil Lennon may not get in touch with him.

The 34-year-old has added that he still has a year left on his deal at the League One club in England, and that he is ready to play for the Black Cats and fulfil his contract.

According to The Scottish Sun, the 34-year-old – who started his professional club football career at Celtic – is not part of the first-team squad at Sunderland at the moment.

McGeady said on The Go Radio Football Show on Go Radio (5pm, September 7, 2020), as transcribed by The Scottish Sun: “Maybe if Lenny [Neil Lennon] gets in touch then I might, aye! But I don’t think that’s going to happen, I think that ship has sailed.

“My first choice would be Celtic but I think that time in my career has passed to be honest with you.”

McGeady added: “Whatever people think happened between me and the manager (Phil Parkinson)… I think it should just remain a football decision.

“It’s a funny one because I have another year left on my deal and I want to play for Sunderland. I’ve made it as clear as that.”

Unlikely Celtic transfer?

McGeady is 34 years of age now, and it is hard to Celtic bring back a winger who is past his prime.

Moreover, the Glasgow giants will have to pay Sunderland a transfer fee for the former Spartak Moscow and Everton winger, and one suspects that they may not be willing to do so.
