Sunderland owner Stewart Donald has praised his side’s supporters, who continue to buy tickets for their match against Portsmouth at the Stadium of Light in huge numbers.

Sunderland are set to break the League One attendance record this weekend, with over 39,000 tickets sold to their match against Pompey.

And Donald has praised Sunderland supporters for showing such loyalty on social media website Twitter.

Sunderland fans have had little to cheer in recent times, but Jack Ross’ side are in the thick of a promotion battle this term.

The success has brought many fans back to the Stadium of Light ahead of what looks to be a huge match this weekend.

Sunderland take on Portsmouth, who are currently top of the league, and they could take a big step closer to promotion with a win.

Sunderland are currently five points behind Kenny Jackett’s side, but they do have two games in hand over them.
