Sunderland midfielder Lee Cattermole is reportedly on the radar of Bordeaux in the summer transfer window.
Earlier this week, The Guardian reported of Bordeaux’s interest in Sunderland defensive midfielder Lee Cattermole.
It was reported that Bordeaux manager Gus Poyet wanted to sign Cattermole, having managed the midfielder at Sunderland.
The French club and the League One outfit in England were reportedly discussing the transfer of the 30-year-old – who earns £40,000 per week as salary, according to The Guardian.
Goal.com France journalist Adrien Mathieu subsequently claimed on social networking site Twitter that Sunderland had turned down Bordeaux’s loan offer, as relayed by Roker Report.
Sunderland owner Stewart Donald has dismissed the speculation on Twitter.
Donald wrote on Twitter in response to the speculation that Sunderland have turned down a loan offer from Bordeaux: “That is total and utter rubbish.”
The Sunderland owner added: “Absolutely. Complete rubbish.”
Keeping Lee Cattermole
Cattermole is a very good defensive midfielder who will be an asset for Sunderland in League One.
It would make sense for Jack Ross’s side to keep hold of the former Middlesbrough star, as they aim to clinch automatic promotion to the Championship this season.
Cattermole has been on the books of Sunderland since the summer of 2009 when he joined from Wigan for a transfer fee reported by The Guardian to be worth £6 million.
