Sunderland owner Stewart Donald has stated on Twitter that the club are not interested in signing Brentford defender Ben Heneghan.

According to Sky Sports, League One club Sunderland are interested in signing Heneghan from Championship side Brentford in the January transfer window.

The defender is currently on loan at Blackpool, but the Bees have the option to recall the 25-year-old, according to the report.

Sunderland owner Donald, though, has stated on Twitter that the Black Cats are not interested in Heneghan.

Promotion challenge

Sunderland are going strong in League One at the moment and are very much in contention for automatic promotion to the Championship at the end of the season.

Jack Ross’s side are currently third in the league table with 50 points from 24 matches, seven points behind leaders Portsmouth, who have played 26 games.
