Sunderland owner Stewart Donald has defended the signing of Chris Maguire in the summer transfer window on social networking site Twitter.
As reported by ChronicleLive, Sunderland have secured the services of Maguire following his departure from Bury, who will play in League Two next season after getting relegated from League One.

As stated by the same publication, the 29-year-old, who can operate as a striker or as a winger, scored two goals in 24 league appearances for Bury last season.
Sunderland owner Donald has defended the Black Cats’ decision to recruit the former Derby County and Sheffield Wednesday man.
Donald has revealed on Twitter that he personally watched the former Aberdeen star when he was at Oxford United, and has urged Sunderland fans to give him a chance.
While replying to a Sunderland fan on Twitter, Donald wrote: “Hopefully you will give the lad a chance if he signs. I watched him for a while at OUFC & if he plays with the same level of intensity as he did for them we will have a player well worth his shirt. Lets see.”
Maguire did not have a great season at Bury in 2017-18, but signing him on a free transfer could prove to be a masterstroke for Sunderland.
The versatile attacker knows League One, and that will be helpful for the former Premier League outfit, who got relegated from the Championship last season.
Sunderland will be aiming to win the League One title next season and clinch automatic promotion to the Championship.
