Newcastle United are in the Premier League, while Sunderland are in League One.

Sunderland owner Stewart Donald has mocked Newcastle United on Twitter.
Donald has claimed that Sunderland are a bigger club than Newcastle, and has also stated that the Magpies just make up the numbers in the Premier League.
The Sunderland owner has also highlighted Newcastle’s lack of domestic cup trophies.
Donald made the comments about Newcastle while replying to tweets, which are now unavailable.

2018-19 campaign
Sunderland are in League One at the moment and are aiming to clinch automatic promotion to the Championship at the end of the season.
Jack Ross’s side are currently fourth in the league table with 73 points from 37 matches, six points behind second-placed Barnsley, who have played 40 games, and are certainly in the race for a top-two finish.
As for Newcastle, Rafael Benitez’s side find themselves 14th in the Premier League table with 35 points from 31 matches, as many as seven points above the relegation zone, and are likely to retain their English top-flight status for the 2019-20 campaign.
