Sunderland midfielder Max Power has apologised to his teammates and fans on social networking site Twitter for getting sent off against Oxford United.

Power featured for Sunderland in their League One match against Oxford at the Stadium of Light on Saturday.

The 25-year-old midfielder, who joined the Black Cats on loan from Wigan Athletic in the summer transfer window, was shown a straight red card in the 19th minute.

The former Tranmere Rovers star was dismissed for a lunge on Marcus Browne, as the Black Cats played out a 1-1 draw with Oxford.

Power has taken to Twitter to apologise to his Sunderland teammates for his dismissal, and the midfielder has also admitted that he is disappointed with his action.

Over the course of the 90 minutes at the Stadium of Light on Saturday, hosts Sunderland had 48% of the possession, took six shots of which one was on target, and earned one corner, according to BBC Sport.
