Everton beat Sunderland 3-0 earlier this month in Premier League action.
Sunderland midfielder Jan Kirchhoff has admitted to the Chronicle that he can accept losing to Everton, as Ronald Koeman’s side are so far ahead of them at this moment in time.
Everton ran out 3-0 winners at the Stadium of Light earlier in the month, and they put in a thoroughly dominant performance on Wearside.
Kirchhoff admits that he cannot be too hard on Sunderland for losing to a side with the quality of Everton’s squad, but he was more frustrated with their defeat to Crystal Palace this weekend.
“You can accept when you lose away at Tottenham, or even when you lose at home to Everton and they control the whole game and are obviously the better team at this moment,” Kirchhoff said.
“As a footballer, you say, ‘Okay, I think you are the better team – you deserve to win this game’.
“But not on Saturday. There is no reason why we should lose this game.”
Kirchhoff’s comments highlight just how far Everton have progressed in a short amount of time under the guidance of Ronald Koeman.
Last season when Everton visited the Stadium of Light, they couldn’t get near Sunderland and slipped to a 3-0 defeat.
The Toffees looked like a team well short of form last term, but they have developed hugely under Koeman’s stewardship already.
Everton have lost just one Premier League match all season, and they currently sit in fifth place in the top flight standings.
