Sunderland have been chasing Celtic midfielder Ryan Christie for much of the summer so far.

According to the Shields Gazette, Barnsley have joined the race for Sunderland target Ryan Christie.
Christie has been made available on loan by Celtic this summer, and Sunderland have been trying to get a deal done for some time.
The youngster is thought to be one of Jack Ross’ top targets, but time is running out.
Sunderland have just hours remaining in the transfer window to get a deal over the line, and they now have the added complication of having to compete with Barnsley.
Ross’ side will almost certainly be wanting to win the race against their League One rivals, as it could be a big blow if they fail to bring the Celtic man to the Stadium of Light.

Barnsley appear to be one of Sunderland’s biggest rivals for the League One title this season, so missing out on one of their top targets to the Tykes would be hard to take for Ross’ side.
Sunderland could damage Barnsley’s hopes if they land Christie, as they would be strengthening their own squad, while denting the Tykes’ transfer hopes.
But if Ross’ side do lose out in the race, then it would be a small victory for Barnsley in the race for a top two spot in League One this season.
