One rumoured Sunderland target will not be moving to the Stadium of Light in January.

The Scottish Sun claimed last week that Sunderland were set to enter the race to sign the Birmingham City forward, Greg Stewart.

But Stewart, who spent the first half of the season on loan to Kilmarnock, has since returned north of the border with Aberdeen.

The Dons confirmed the 28-year-old’s arrival on another temporary deal earlier this afternoon (Friday).

Stewart can play anywhere across the forward line, but has spent most of the current campaign operating from a central attacking position.

Sunderland’s striking options were reduced by Jerome Sinclair’s return to Watford earlier this month, while Josh Maja is also tipped to depart before the transfer deadline.

Maja’s exit would leave Charlie Wyke as the Mackems’ only recognised centre forward.
