A number of Leicester City fans have been commenting on Twitter about George Hirst’s impressive display in the Under-21s EFL Trophy win against Sunderland on Tuesday night.

The 20-year-old forward has been superb for the Foxes development side this term, and scored at Man City’s U23s on Friday for a fourth successive victory and seventh match unbeaten for his side (Leicester website).

Hirst, the son of Sheffield Wednesday legend David Hirst, was given the chance to show what he’s capable of against one of League One’s strongest teams and he took the opportunity with both hands.

Sunderland began brightly enough against the young Foxes at the Stadium of Light as Chris Maguire fired in a free kick in the first half to give them a 1-0 lead.

However, Leicester got back into the game when Hirst dispatched a penalty after Callum Wright had been fouled in the box and then Kiernan Dewsbury-Hall fired in from the edge of the area to condemn the hosts to defeat.

Here is what some of the King Power Stadium faithful said on social media regarding Hirst’s display at the Stadium of Light:

Having beaten Grimsby and secured an additional point after a penalty shootout win over Scunthorpe following a draw, Leicester finish on eight points, while Sunderland and Scunthorpe will play each other for the second qualifying spot.
