Sunderland could move to re-sign striker Joe Hugill on loan from Manchester United at the end of the season.
That’s according to The Sun, who claim that United are ready to loan Hugill out for the whole of next term.
Hugill is currently on loan at non-league side Altrincham but United will look for him to work further up the pyramid next season.
Sunderland are understood to be on red alert for Hugill and could look to bring him back to Wearside.
Hugill was born in Durham and came up through the Sunderland ranks before leaving for United in 2020.
United agreed to pay £250,000 to sign Hugill and beat Tottenham Hotspur in the race for his signature.
United have high hopes for the teenager but a Championship spell may be needed for his development.

Joe Hugill appears to be a big talent
Hugill may be in non-league action right now but that’s just a starting point for his senior journey.
This also doesn’t mean that he won’t be cut out for the Championship; just look at Cameron Archer, whose only loan experience before banging goals in for Preston North End and Middlesbrough was with Solihull Moors.
Hugill could follow a similar path and he certainly appears to be highly rated.
Ole Gunnar Solskjaer called Hugill a ‘top striker’ during their time together at Old Trafford.
Hugill’s form this season has been pretty strong, scoring nine times in nine Premier League 2 games for United.
Sunderland may now hope to bring Hugill back to the Stadium of Light and bolster their attack.
Ross Stewart looks set to stay at Sunderland but with Joe Gelhardt only on loan from Leeds United, Hugill could come in as a replacement.
A return to his first club would be quite emotional for Hugill and Sunderland would surely be his top pick of any interested loan club.
