Sunderland’s Jordan Pickford has missed the last two months’ worth of action with injury.

Sunderland goalkeeper Jordan Pickford has admitted to the Daily Star that he feels very lucky that he wasn’t ruled out for the whole season, after damaging his knee.

Pickford damaged his knee on Boxing Day, but scans detected he had only strained his cruciate ligament rather than torn it.

David Moyes disagrees with Sunderland supporters who suggest this about his team

As a result, Pickford has only had to miss around two months’ of action – and is now set to be available for Sunderland’s next match against Everton.

“The knee is fine now,” Pickford said.

“I’ve had a good six to eight weeks off but I’m working really hard in the gym and getting my knee right.

“Hopefully, I’ll be ready for Everton.

“My cruciate could have snapped but it’s still intact so I think I’ve got away with one.”

Pickford’s return for Sunderland is a major boost for David Moyes’ side, as the 22-year-old was arguably their best player over the early part of the season.

The youngster earned himself a call up to the full England squad through his performances and he never looked fazed by any challenge thrown at him.

Sunderland have replaced Pickford with Vito Mannone during his absence, but it is widely expected that the Italian will drop back to the bench when Pickford returns.

Sunderland are currently stuck at the bottom of the Premier League table, and need to rack up a series of victories to move away from trouble.
