Some Sunderland supporters are urging their club to bring back Sheffield Wednesday’s Ross Wallace this summer.
Wallace was a fans favourite during his two full seasons at Sunderland, in which he helped the Mackems to the Championship title and Premier League safety.
And with Wednesday confirming the Scot’s departure on Tuesday evening, these Mackems’ followers are hoping that history will repeat itself – albeit starting in the third tier this time.
Wallace scored or made 33 goals in 124 games for Sheffield Wednesday, who narrowly missed out on promotion to the top flight in each of his first two seasons at Hilllsborough.
But a knee injury looks to have scuppered the 32-year-old’s chances of earning a new contract, although he is expected to be fit again in time for the new campaign.
Sunderland midfielder George Honeyman continues to be linked with a move to the Owls, and could feasibly replace Wallace in the Steel City.
