The Black Cats defender is in the NI squad for their upcoming Euro 2020 qualifiers against Estonia and Belarus.

Sunderland defender Tom Flanagan has been called up to the Northern Ireland squad for their upcoming Euro 2020 qualifiers against Estonia and Belarus next month.
The 27-year-old, who joined the Black Cats last summer after being released by Burton Albion, has made 42 appearances for Jack Ross’s side this season of which 32 came in League One, according to Transfermarkt.
Flanagan has been capped just once by Northern Ireland, playing the full 90 minutes in a friendly against New Zealand two years ago, but has been called up numerous times by the nation.
In terms of his exploits for Sunderland this season, the centre-back has come in for some criticism by a number of Black Cats faithful from time to time.
Indeed, the club’s Twitter post announcing Flanagan’s Northern Ireland call-up was met by some bewilderment:
Sunderland striker Will Grigg, meanwhile, has been left out of the NI squad as he recovers from an ongoing ankle injury, while former Black Cats players Jonny Evans and Paddy McNair have also been selected by Michael O’Neill.
Northern Ireland are top of Group C after beating both of their upcoming opponents at home in their opening two qualifiers in March.
