Sunderland fans react on Twitter to Reece James departure

The Black Cats full-back has traded the Stadium of Light for fellow League One side Doncaster Rovers.

Sunderland fans have taken to Twitter to voice their thoughts on Reece James’s switch to League One rivals Doncaster Rovers (official Black Cats website).

The 25-year-old leaves the Stadium of Light for an undisclosed fee to link up with the Keepmoat Stadium side, signing a a two-year contract.

As reported by the Sunderland Echo, chairman Stewart Donald said James had taken up an option in his contract to extend his Wearside stay for a further year.

The full-back made 30 appearances for the Black Cats last term, playing a part in them finishing in the playoffs, but injury issues saw him miss the latter stages of the season (Doncaster Free Press).

The Yorkshire-based outlet claimed that Rovers stepped up their search for a left-back after talks over a new deal with Danny Andrew were ended more than a week ago, and it has now led them to James.

James began his career with Manchester United before moving to Wigan Athletic in the 2015 summer transfer window and with the Latics, he twice won promotion from League One before joining Sunderland last season (BBC Sport).
