The Stadium of Light side postponed their League One game with the Newcastle United ex-player’s side.

A number of Sunderland fans have taken to Twitter to give their thoughts on Joey Barton’s comments towards the Black Cats regarding their decision to postpone the League One clash with his Fleetwood Town side.
The Stadium of Light outfit made the decision to postpone their clash with the Cod Army, which was originally scheduled for October 12, after Jon McLaughlin, Conor McLaughlin and Tom Flanagan were handed international call-ups.
Clubs in League One and League Two can ask for their league games to be postponed if they have three players called up for international duty at either senior or Under-21 level, and the Black Cats confirmed on their website that “three or more players have now been selected by their respective nations”.
Fleetwood boss and former Newcastle United midfielder Barton has slated Sunderland’s decision, suggesting that Jack Ross and co knew they would suffer defeat if his side made the visit to Wearside.
“Smartly, Sunderland have decided to rearrange the game,” he is quoted by the Sunderland Echo as saying. “If I was in their position and looked at their momentum, our momentum, their team and our team I would have done the same.

“If Joey Barton and Fleetwood rock into town and do what we can do and what we showed last season at home and away, with a group which is nowhere near as strong as it is now, for Jack Ross, we are the last team that you want to face given their situation.”
Needless to say his comments didn’t go down too well with the Sunderland fanbase and some made their feelings known on social media:
