The Black Cats academy ace is leaving the Stadium of Light and linking up with the German side.

A number of Sunderland fans have taken to Twitter after the club announced Jacob Young’s departure to German side Hoffenheim, a club he will officially join as of 1 July.
According to Chronicle Live, the 19-year-old central defender has rejected a new contract at the Stadium of Light, and now he will link up with last season’s ninth-placed Bundesliga side.
Sunderland confirmed on their retained list that he had been offered fresh terms but academy manager Paul Reid has said that his depature has now been mutually agreed.
“We were made aware of Hoffenheim’s interest in Jacob a while back,” he told the official club website. “After a conversation with the player, we agreed his future would be best suited at the German club.”
Young is one of several highly rated young players who came through the ranks of the Wearside club but have left in recent months, with Chronicle Live also naming Sam Greenwood, Luca Stephenson and Morten Spencers as others who have upped sticks.
Here is what some Black Cats fans said on Twitter about Young’s exit:
Young, a dual UK-Australian national whose father is former Scarborough ace Stuart Young, leaves Sunderland without having made a senior appearance for the club (Transfermarkt), though he was an unused substitute in last season’s Football League Trophy game at Morecambe (Chronicle Live).
