The Black Cats defender was withdrawn at half time by Stadium of Light boss Jack Ross.
A number of Sunderland fans have taken to Twitter to give their thoughts on the Black Cats’ performance in the poor 1-1 draw against Bolton Wanderers and Denver Hume’s display came under particular scrutiny.
The 21-year-old had a day to forget as he got booked early on and was overwhelmed by opposition midfielder Thibaud Verlinder, who caused him problems time and time again, although on a slightly more positive note he was bright coming forward at times.
Nonetheless, Hume’s defensive frailties and tightrope-walking on the day due to his yellow card got concerning to the point that Jack Ross withdrew his player at half time.

In all fairness, it was a particularly poor display for most of the Sunderland players as they fell behind to Jack Hobbs’ 50th-minute strike – indeed, Bolton were on the verge of their first win of the season, which would have ended a run of 175 days without victory.
In the end, Jack Ross’ charges were able to leave the University of Bolton Stadium with a point after Aiden McGeady tucked away a 92nd-minute penalty after substitute Yoan Zouma’s handball was punished by the referee pointing to the spot.
