Sunderland were beaten 4-0 by Southampton at the Stadium of Light earlier today.

Sunderland fans have absolutely ripped into Steven Pienaar, after his performance against Southampton today.

Pienaar was brought on at half-time to replace John O’Shea, with Sunderland 2-0 down in the contest.

However, the South African midfielder failed to help his side get back into the match.

Pienaar was ineffectual as things went from bad to worse for Sunderland in the second half.

The Black Cats not only failed to get back into the game, but they also conceded a further two goals in the closing stages.

There was a lot of frustration felt around Sunderland at the result, and Pienaar has taken the brunt of the criticism on social media.

Sunderland’s heavy defeat has heavily damaged confidence, and leaves David Moyes’ side still stuck at the bottom of the Premier League table.

Sunderland are due to fly out to New York on Monday, where Moyes intends to put on a training camp to improve spirits in his squad.
