The goalkeeper, recently released by the Black Cats, was out of favour at the Stadium of Light.
A number of Sunderland fans have taken to Twitter to give their thoughts on Robbin Ruiter’s move to Eredivisie giants PSV Eindhoven, as confirmed on the League One club’s feed.
The 32-year-old goalkeeper joined the Black Cats in the summer of 2017 as a free agent after impressing on trial but his arrival coincided with a tumultuous period in the club’s history.
With Sunderland having been relegated from the Premier League that summer, Ruiter made 21 appearances in all competitions during his debut season.
However, like his fellow goalkeepers, he did not have a particularly impressive time at the then-ailing club, conceding 33 goals in a woeful campaign for the team which saw them drop to the third tier.
The Dutchman was more solid in 2018-19 but was given very little game time under Jack Ross, with just six EFL Trophy appearances – albeit boasting five clean sheets – and a 14-minute cameo in League One, again without conceding (Transfermarkt).
Ruiter was released by the Black Cats after being second choice to Jon McLaughlin for much of last season and PSV confirmed his signing on Wednesday night with an article shared on their social media channels.
