The Black Cats forward’s sending-off against Luton has been rescinded by the FA but some fans are still unimpressed about Lee Probert’s refereeing display.
Sunderland forward Chris Maguire will be available for Saturday’s League One trip to Scunthorpe United on Saturday after the Football Association overturned his red card in the 1-1 draw against Walsall.
The 29-year-old was sent off in added-on time at the Stadium of Light on Saturday after a challenge on Luton midfielder Alan McCormack, with referee Lee Probert interpreting his attempt to win the ball as a stamp, leaving both sides finishing the game with ten men.
Maguire had earlier put the Black Cats ahead on 16 minutes when he slotted into the bottom corner from 16 yards after Lynden Gooch’s shot was blocked by McCormack, but James Collins equalised with a penalty awarded after being tripped by Jack Baldwin.
It is the second time this season the Black Cats have successfully appealed a sending off after Max Power was shown a red card in the reverse league fixture against Walsall, and that too was overturned.
