Luke O’Nien certainly impressed in Sunderland’s stunning draw with Walsall on Saturday.

Luke O’Nien may have only moved to the Stadium of Light in the summer, but it appears that he has already secured his spot in Sunderland folklore with his celebration after the Black Cats’ equaliser against Walsall on Saturday.
Jack Ross’ side appeared to be heading rapidly towards their first defeat in more than two months. Max Power was sent off and Walsall took a 2-0 lead into the final half-hour at the Bescot Stadium.
But the Black Cats fought back superbly, scoring twice to secure a point. Their equaliser in the 89th minute sparked wild celebrations, with O’Nien’s embrace with a fan catching a lot of attention.
But it was not just the celebration that led to the 24-year-old receiving praise on social media.

A number of Sunderland fans were delighted with the former Wycombe midfielder who came on shortly after the interval. O’Nien played a key role in both goals, including providing the assist for Lynden Gooch’s equaliser.
And several supporters have urged Ross to hand O’Nien a rare start at home against Barnsley on Tuesday. The fans loved how tenacious the summer signing was after coming on, and hope that the manager will reward him this coming week.
