Sunderland picked up another win in their pursuit of promotion as they beat Plymouth Argyle 2-0 at the Stadium of Light on Saturday afternoon.

The Black Cats went into the game 12 unbeaten in League One, and with two wins in a row, Jack Ross and co were building momentum again.

On Saturday, they took on Plymouth at the Stadium of Light, and Lee Cattermole put Sunderland into a first half lead after fine play from Lewis Morgan to snatch possession.

Sunderland continued to press for the all-important second goal, and it finally came in the second half as Aiden McGeady’s wing play ended with George Honeyman smashing the ball home.

With Barnsley beating Southend United earlier in the day, Sunderland needed a victory to keep up the pressure on the second-placed Tykes, and they did just that.

Part of the success was playmaker Morgan, who was making just a third start since his January loan move from Celtic.

Having impressed as a substitute at Bristol Rovers last week, Sunderland fans have been keen to see the Scot start – and they got what they wanted on Saturday afternoon.

Fans took to Twitter to praise Morgan’s showing, calling him ‘terrific’, ‘sublime’ and ‘unplayable’, with some naming him their man of the match, and others marvelling at how he and McGeady tore the Plymouth full backs apart.
