Sunderland fans react to Josh Maja’s latest display

Sunderland were only in action against Port Vale on Sunday, but were back again on Tuesday night as they took on Morecambe in the Checkatrade Trophy.

The Black Cats sent a much-rotated side to the Globe Arena, with the likes of Bryan Oviedo and Glenn Loovens given a run-out.

Sunderland were in a commanding position in their group to make it through to the next stage of the competition, but were in danger of being frustrated last night.

However, Sunderland did grab a late winner as Oviedo set up Josh Maja for a last-minute winner, with the teenager bagging yet another goal.

Sunderland now advance top of their group and will be hoping to go far in the competition, especially with a Wembley date for the final on offer.

Maja’s goal took his tally to 10 goals in 19 games this season, and fans took to Twitter during and after the game to discuss his performance – and hope that he signs a new contract soon.

Some remain unconvinced by Maja and feel that the 19-year-old needs to become more physical, but others praised him as being a ‘class above’ against Morecambe, and found creative ways to explain just how good his first touch is…
