For just over an hour on Saturday it looked like Sunderland would finally get their first Premier League victory of the new campaign under their belt. That was until things took a turn for the worse.

Two goals from Jermain Defoe put the Black Cats in control but manager David Moyes watched aghast as strikes from Joe Ledley, James McArthur and Christian Benteke ensured Palace ultimately took all three points back to Selhurst Park.

Moyes blamed the players after the final whistle after they were unable to see out the game while 2-0 up, and among the Sunderland stars that disappointed was defender Javier Manquillo.

The Spaniard arrived at the Stadium of the Light in the summer to add to the defensive options at Moyes’ disposal, but the former Liverpool player had a day to forget against the Eagles.
