Sunderland scored a late equaliser to earn a point against West Bromwich Albion this weekend, with substitute Patrick van Aanholt coming off the bench to net with just seven minutes of normal-time remaining.

The Dutchman’s replacement in the starting line-up was summer signing Jason Denayer, who is currently on loan from Manchester City, but on this evidence Van Aanholt will be back directly after the international break.

Denayer enjoyed a superb loan spell at Celtic but more recently he has struggled to replicate his best form and it remains to be seen if he has what it takes to ultimately become a first-team regular at City.

To do that, he will have to start impressing week in, week out at the Black Cats. However the majority of their fans were not overly impressed by his latest showing.
