Sunderland are reportedly close to completing their first signing in January.

According to reports from the Sunderland Echo, Sunderland are close to completing their first signing of the January transfer window within the next 24 hours.

Chris Coleman, the Sunderland boss, is looking to bring in at least five to six players in January, but it will all be loan deals.

The Black Cats find themselves rock bottom of the Championship table, and lost 2-0 to Middlesbrough in the FA Cup on Saturday. Therefore, the January transfer window is very crucial as Coleman needs reinforcements to take the club out of this dreadful situation.

The exciting young centre-back was a key member of the England U20 World Cup winning side in the summer. Coleman hopes to complete the deal within Monday, and he will be drafted straight into the starting XI.
