Sunderland have received a major boost at the back with the loan signing of Burnley defender Jimmy Dunne until the end of the season.

The 21-year-old centre-back spent the first half of the campaign on loan at Scottish Premiership side Hearts, making 12 league appearances, according to Transfermarkt.

Dunne even weighed in with two goals – including one against Rangers – and an assist, giving him an impressive ratio of contributing to a goal once every four league games.

The Republic of Ireland Under-21 ace, who helped Accrington Stanley win the League Two title in 2017-18, could make his debut against Luton Town on Saturday.

Dunne will bolster Jack Ross’ options in central defence and is likely to provide increased competition for first-choice pair Jack Baldwin and Tom Flanagan.

Sunderland confirmed the signing of the former Manchester United academy man on Wednesday and here is how some of the Black Cats faithful reacted to the news:

What will interest Sunderland fans regarding Dunne even more is the reaction of some Hearts fans to the move and their glowing endorsement of the youngster, as well as rave reviews from some Burnley supporters:
