There was a very mixed reaction to Aiden McGeady’s performance during Sunderland’s EFL Trophy clash this week.

A number of Sunderland fans have taken to Twitter to comment on Aiden McGeady’s performance during the Black Cats’ Checkatrade Trophy clash with Carlisle United which saw Jack Ross’ men claim a 3-1 victory.
Sunderland extended their unbeaten run in all competitions to five games to move themselves to the top of their group. Benji Kimpioka opened the scoring after some excellent work from McGeady on the wing, but Carlisle would bag the game’s next goal.
Ethan Robson put the home side back in front at the Stadium of Light shortly after the half-hour mark, and the win would be secured by George Honeyman just before the midway point in the second-half.
It appeared to be a positive performance from McGeady who was making just his fifth appearance of the season for Ross’ men. He looked to be Sunderland’s biggest threat and seemed to cause Carlisle numerous problems.

But it appears that not everyone was happy with the former Celtic man’s performance. There was a handful of supporters who slammed the winger’s display on social media and felt that he was wasteful, particularly in front of goal.
There was some praise for the 32-year-old’s performance on another positive night for the Black Cats, but it definitely appears that he still has plenty of critics to try and win over.

Here is the best of the reaction to McGeady’s display…
