Sunderland fans are very divided after hearing Ralf Rangnick tease the idea of Red Bull investing in the League One side in the future.

A number of Sunderland fans have taken to Twitter to react to comments Ralf Rangnick made to Bild where he suggested that the Black Cats would be the kind of club that Red Bull would be interested in they looked to expand their portfolio in future.
Red Bull have arguably created one of the more controversial and divisive reputations in football, having taking over a number of clubs across the world, most notably RB Leipzig, Red Bull Salzburg and New York Red Bulls.
Rangnick was asked by Bild if the company had any plans to expand further, and he suggested that if they did, they would look to a team in England. And interestingly, Sunderland were mentioned as the kind of the club that could attract their attention.
“If we wanted to expand, only one club in England would make sense. A third tier like maybe Sunderland or Milton Keynes. However, problems would arise when the club is pushing into international business,” he told Bild.

Unsurprisingly, given how Red Bull are perceived by football fans, the comments have attracted a very mixed response amongst the Sunderland fans on social media.
There are plenty who want nothing to do with the company. They fear that the Black Cats will lose their identity by striking up a partnership with Red Bull and are desperately hoping that the comments are absolutely no indication of any actual interest.

However, there are also those who would welcome the investment. While the large majority have no interest in seeing the club become RB Sunderland, they believe that they could provide the kind of backing that takes the side forward as has been the case with a number of their other teams.
