Sunderland have brought Phil Parkinson’s trusted lieutenant to the Stadium of Light less than a week after Lee Butler joined the Black Cats.

A number of Sunderland fans have taken to Twitter to comment on the news that Nick Allamby has joined Phil Parkinson’s backroom team at the Stadium of Light as physical performance coach (official Black Cats website).
Allamby, who has left Bolton to join the Black Cats, has previously worked with Parkinson, the pair first working together in 2011, first at Bradford before making the switch to the University of Bolton Stadium in 2016.
After studying at the University of Teesside, Allamby spent nine years at Middlesbrough, undertaking various roles including head of fitness and conditioning, before linking up with the Bantams.
As reported by the Sunderland Echo, Allamby will not replace any existing staff and is set to work closely with current first team sport scientist Paul Walsh, Parkinson saying the appointment is part of the club rebuilding its structures for the long term.

“I’m delighted Nick has joined,” Parkinson is quoted by the Sunderland Echo as saying.“He’s excellent at what he does and he will bring a real edge to our preparation.
“It’s part of the process whereby the board wants to rebuild and get a structure in place to take us forward, and Nick will be an excellent appointment. He’s come in to be in charge of that sport science department. You do need strength in that department, and Nick will bring us more expertise to help the good people we’ve already got involved there.”
Here is what some Sunderland fans said on social media regarding the appointment:
Allamby’s appointment at Sunderland comes less than a week after another coach with experience working alongside Parkinson, goalkeeping coach Lee Butler, left Bolton to join the Stadium of Light.
